He is the grandson of Andrew jackson Adkins, who moved to Oklahoma in 1887. His mother was half Cherokee. Helping to raise his three children, he has lived most of his life in Texas and Oklahoma. More published then Norman Rockwell, Dale Adkins is best known for his illustration of the Louis L'Amour western novels. An avid aviator, Dale bought his first airplane at age sixteen. He has flown dozens of aircraft including: the AT-6 (Texan); a Stearman; the Twin Beech D-18; the 680 Aero Commander; and he has 125 hours in the P-51 Mustang. Dale Adkins lives in North Texas, where he continues to create popular art. He has a degree in fine arts from Oklahoma University. Dale is currently the most published artist in America and his art reflects his ancestry. |
